World Series Of Poker (WSOP) Main Event 2009 In Las Vegas

The $10.000 WSOP 2009 Main Event just started at the Rio in Las Vegas, this tournament is the world championship of poker, and is the last World Series of Poker event in Las Vegas in 2009.

The WSOP 2009 Main Event will feature 4 starting days, each player gets 30.000 in chips, and it will take 8 days of play to reach the final table.

After the success seen in the WSOP 2008, one major item will remain the same, the November Nine format.

The final 9 players remaining in the main event will once again go on a 4 month hiatus before coming back to play out the action Nov. 7-10. The intent is to build up anticipation for the year's biggest poker event.

After an amazing turnout to see Peter Eastgate win the 2008 championship and more than $9 million, this year's finale will take place in front of a live audience and will receive special prime-time coverage on ESPN.

WSOP 2008 was a record year 58.720 poker players from 124 different countries battled for their share of over $180,000,000 in total prizes over the course of 56 WSOP events.

It´s amazing to see the incredible numbers that the World Series of Poker (WSOP) continues to provide in spite of evidence that would project an overall decline in poker's popularity.

Number of WSOP Main Event Entrants.
2006
: 8,773 entrants ( Before the UIGEA )
2007: 6,358 entrants
2008: 6,844 entrants

Lets see how many players found their way to the WSOP 2009 Main Event.

GOOD LUCK to everyone playing the main event.

The 2009 World Series Of Poker Just Started

The 2009 World Series of Poker just started with the $40,000 No-Limit Hold’em Event, at the Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Among the poker legends taking a shot at the first WSOP bracelet event of 2009 were Doyle Brunson, Phil Hellmuth, Johnny Chan, Phil Ivey, Tom “durrrr” Dwan, Chris Moneymaker, John Juanda, and 2008 WSOP Main Event champion Peter Eastgate.

Phil Hellmuth’s entrance was typically late into the event, as he showed up well into the fourth level of play, nothing unusual about that.

Peter Eastgate had a bad start of WSOP 2009 when he was eliminated by Charles Lehr on day 1.
The complete 2009 schedule as announced will again include the much discussed delay for the Main Event final table, with 2009's eventual "November Nine" slated to return to the Rio on November 7th for the prestigious title.

The 2009 World Series of Poker features 57 bracelet events spread over seven weeks of action from late May to mid-July.

Click here for the complete schedule of WSOP 2009 events.

The 2008 WSOP Main Event champion Peter Eastgate cashed more than $9million for his 1.st place finnish.

Good luck to all players in WSOP 2009.

Barney Frank To Introduce Internet Gambling Legislation On Wednesday

Two and a half years have passed since the restrictive UIGEA legislation came into force in the U.S.

But this afternoon a bill is sent that would reform the law so as to resemble the old model.

Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-MA) will hold a press conference to unveil legislation that will enable Americans to bet online and put an end to an inappropriate interference with their personal freedom.

Currently, the government could use the money to pay for some of the important general expenses.

My view is not that there should be an intensive taxation, but, like so many other legitimate activities of a smaller tax rate, "said Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee.

The bill would "create an exemption to the UIGEA for operators that are licensed and regulated. UIGEA, which was enacted in 2006, restricts the use of the payments system for Americans who seek the freedom to gamble online."

Only 9 out of the 22 poker networks currently offer games for the Americans, so it can potentially be a profitable model for the United States. But according to Barney Frank, the economic issue is not the most important.

Lets get US players back at the poker tables at all poker rooms.
